Young Orchestra Day
A full day of sectional rehearsals and performances involving primary school pupils from a range of local schools, hosted by the Headington School music department.
Aims
To provide enthusiastic young musicians an opportunity to rehearse and play as part of an orchestra, using the music facilities at Headington School.
Background
The Young Orcherstra day has been running for nine years, and was inaugurated as a way of allowing young musicians to take advantage of the facilities and staff at Headington School during a relatively quiet time of year.
Resources
A full day of sectional rehearsals are arranged with as many as eight or nine Headington staff. An afternoon performance is arranged in a Headington School venue with visiting parents in the audience.
Impact
No formal assessment, however the number of primary schools who continue to send pupils is an indicator of the benefits of the event.
Pupil Involvement
Around 100 visiting Year 5 and 6 pupils are involved.
Headington pupils in Years 8, 9 and 12 are involved in assisting with the delivery of the event.
Frequency
This is an on-going annual event, which is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
