Yoga and Mindfulness Classes for Local Primaries and Nurseries
A new Community Service Programme placement sees Norwich School Lower 6th pupils visiting local primary schools and nurseries to teach yoga lessons to children.
Aims
Yoga and Mindfulness has been a new addition to our Community Service placements this years and is a pupil-led initiative from two of our Lower 6th pupils.
Having started taking part in yoga lessons at the beginning of the school year, the pupils wanted to take what they had learned and devise their own yoga sessions for younger children.
Resources
The pupils have now taken their yoga session into four schools and nurseries, leading children from infant ages up to 11.
Impact
Pupil: "We started at the beginning of the school year and learned lots of different yoga poses and techniques for teaching the children. Before starting our lessons after the February half term, we put together a yoga routine which was suited to the children’s young ages and varying experience in yoga. So far, we have now taught lessons at four different schools, and it has been great fun to see the children improving whilst also really enjoying our lessons."
Frequency
The yoga sessions will continue to the end of this academic year, with plans in place to offer up the placement for the new cohort of Lower 6th next year.
