Year 5 Primary Enrichment Programme
Ten of our local primary schools host our Sixth Formers for their weekly community service placements. As a thank you for hosting us and allowing our pupils to serve the local community, we wanted to offer a series of enrichment classes on Sunday mornings for pupils in Yeaer 5 from our primary partner schools.
This was a student-led initiative, with four inspirational Year 12 pupils helping to plan the lessons that they themselves taught to the Year 5 pupils. We launched this as a pilot in February 2024, with two parallel classes attending Classics, Science, Maths and English lessons. We also had a break time with fun and games, and a lunch break after the second session. Having run three more sessions in Summer Term 2024, we are delighted to be able to extend this provision to the pupils in the Autumn Term of their Year 6, and will be expanding our curriculum to include sessions on Coding and Sustainability.
Aims
Offering enrichment opportunities to a range of ability levels in the local community.
Background
The pupils who helped to develop this idea had created their own organisation: Student Enrichment Education (SEE), and they worked with teachers at Wycombe Abbey, especially the subject specialists, to hone the lesson plans.
Resources
School facilities are used for this programme and the catering costs are paid for by Wycombe Abbey.
Impact
We have surveyed both the Year 5 parents and pupils together using MS Forms after each session. The feedback has been ovehwelmingly positive, hence our decision to run this as a Spring Term Year 5 - Autumn Term Year 6 cycle, so that those who attended the pilot session can effectively have a year's worth of enrichment provision.
Frequency
This runs on three or four specific Sunday mornings each academic term.
