Year 4 Paired Reading Partnership

We have linked all students in Year 4 at The Palmer Academy with our own Year 4 students at The Abbey Junior School. Each term the classes read together, alternating between The Abbey Junior School library and The Palmer Academy's library. Students choose books and read together, to promote a love of books, words and encourage reading aloud. 

Aims

The aims are to encourage reading and promote a love of books across both schools. The Palmer Academy identified a need for reading and suggested a paired opportunity, in which Year 4 are able to meet new people and communicate ideas.

Background

The partnership with The Palmer Academy started in October 2022 and continues to evolve and develop. The schools are within close proximity. 

Resources

Use of each schools library. 

Impact

Anticipated outcomes are for children to feel confident reading aloud, building relationships and choosing books to discuss. An excitement to read and positive attitude towards reading ability.

47 Year 4 students from The Abbey Junior School.

60 Year 4 students from The Palmer Academy.
