Working with local schools to help the community
Rossall are delighted to be involved in a community project to serve the people of Fleetwood. A trust group bought the old Fleetwood hospital and are aiming to turn it into a community support hub for the people of Fleetwood.
Aims
In 2018, Fleetwood Trust purchased the building from previous owners Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a community asset. Much of the building on Pharos Street has been empty for several years after two rehabilitation wards closed a decade ago, but with new owners on board, there are now plans to renovate the building and increase its use.
The Trust is a not-for profit group of individuals representing the community as residents, including health care professionals, business, voluntary and faith leaders. Trust members will oversee the building costs and use of the rooms for community activities, while existing and additional care services will be provided by NHS staff.
Background
The parnership came about through links the school have to the trust who have bought the building. On the trust committee, are members of the parent and governing body of the school. This then gave the school a great opportunity to actively work within the community.
Resources
The project will use school resources and non teaching staff. As the building is being completed, the school maintenance crew will be involved in construction and after completion, there will be a facility staffed by the school to help members of the local community with job applications or computer literacy skills.
Pupil Involvement
The project will involve all areas of school as it moves forward and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Fleetwood High School and Cardinal Allen High School
Frequency
This is an exciting partnership that will develop and grow as the facility in Fleetwood develops and it will be an on-going part of school life.
