West Kent ISSP takes students to see Hamilton the Musical

Students who attended all the academic year's lectures and masterclasses, were given the opportunity to see Hamilton the Musical in London in June. This was relevant to the theme from the year as the show is set shortly after the Boston Tea Party.

Approx 80 students plus around 20 staff attended and travelled by coach.

Aims

The West Kent Independent State School Partnership (ISSP) is a partnership of eight secondary schools - The Judd School, Kent College Pembury, The Malling School, Mascalls Academy, Oakley School, The Skinners’ School, Skinners’ Kent Academy and Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School.

It has been established with the aim of sharing resources and providing high aspirational learning opportunities for pupils. The projects also enable teachers to extend their professional development, free from curriculum constraints.

Background

The partnership was established in 2019 after a need was identified by Kent College to share facilities, resources and ideas with other local schools, for staff to network and collaborate with their peers from local schools and to create learning opportunities for high achieving pupils.

Resources

Teaching and non teaching staff attended the trip to accompany the students.

Students were asked to pay £40 each for the ticket and the transportation by coach.

Impact

No formal feedback was received, however anecdotal feedback was extremely positive and the trip was thought to be a lovely way to end a great year of learning.

Pupil Involvement

70 pupils from years 7,8 and 9, both male and female attended.

Frequency

This was a one off event but we will look to do something similar in 2024.
