West Kent ISSP runs an inspirational day of masterclasses
The West Kent ISSP ran a day of inspirational masterclasses as part of the series of events on the theme of Adventures in Sound.
There were four workshops for Year 7 and 8 pupils from the partner schools to choose from: Seeing Sound, Manipulating Sound, Designing Sound for Film and What does Power Sound like?
Approximately 70 pupils attended.
Aims
The West Kent Independent State School Partnership (ISSP) is a partnership of eight secondary schools - The Judd School, Kent College Pembury, The Malling School, Mascalls Academy, Oakley School, The Skinners’ School, Skinners’ Kent Academy and Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School.
It has been established with the aim of sharing resources and providing high aspirational learning opportunities for pupils. The projects also enable teachers to extend their professional development, free from curriculum constraints.
Background
The partnership was established in 2019 after a need was identified by Kent College to share facilities, resources and ideas with other local schools, for staff to network and collaborate with peers from other local schools and to create learning opportunities for high achieving pupils.
Resources
The masterclasses were held at Skinners' Kent Academy.
There were teaching and non teaching staff from all the partner schools present and Headteachers from Kent College and the Skinners' School.
It was a free event.
Impact
We carried out a feedback survey after the masterclasses and comments were positive. Most people said they would come to another event.
Pupil Involvement
There were approx 70 Year 7 and 8 pupils. The split is approx 10 from independent schools (Kent College) and 60 from non-independent schools.
Frequency
This is an annual event. We hope to run it again next year.
