Wellbeing

As part of Wolverhampton Grammar School's Wellbeing curriculum, students have the opportunity to learn about the world of work and specifically careers that are linked to Wellbeing. With this in mind, we were delighted to welcome the West Midlands Air Ambulance to school and share the experience with visiting students from Smestow Academy.

Aims

Careers in Wellbeing forms part of the curriculum for Wellbeing and this partnership visit was identified following an earlier visit by the Midlands Air Ambulance Team who taught CPR skills to Year 7 students at WGS.

This time a MAAC representative explained about the work of the helicopter-led emergency medical service which covers six Midlands counties. Following the talk students were able to visit a helipod (a decommissioned MAAC helicopter) to understand more about how real casualties are airlifted to hospital.

Background

The Wellbeing Programme at WGS was set up by the new Head of Wellbeing, Mrs Keeley, following her appointment in September 2022. She has organised numerous events for WGS students and made contact with a local secondary school to see if they would be interested in benefiting from our Wellbeing curriculum. This was the first partnership event to take place with the interest in further co-operation in the future.

Resources

The event took place on school facilities and fundraising took place for the charity at the same time.

Pupil Involvement

Year 9 pupils at WGS took part as well as 15 Year 9 students from Smestow Academy.
