Wealden Hub - Drama - Primary Shakespeare

Following the successful hosting of the 2022 Shakespeare in Schools performances for Benenden and Goudhurst Primaries, the Benenden Drama department has launch a new series of initiatives to partner with local primary schools.

Aims

The aim was to bring together primary teachers to share ideas and ways to teach Shakespeare and to inspire colleagues to put on their own school productions, with the opportunity to use the facilities in Benenden School.

Background

Last year Benenden hosted two primary schools' performances in its theatre, providing assistance with lighting and sound.  Following this success Benenden are seeking to expand the level of its drama partnerships.

Resources

A teaching pack was created to support the workshop day - including lesson plans, and guidance on drama activities.  

Benenden's Head of Drama is working closely with Benenden Primary and Goudhurst Primary in producing their plays this year.  Benenden will be providing technical support, the venue, costumes and mentoring of staff as part of this initiative.

Impact

Up to 70 primary pupils and directly benefitting from the performances and the staff will also receive support from Benenden provision.  in terms of cost - Benenden is providing all resources and facilities at no cost.

There were 8 members of staff on the workshop day.

We have received excellent feedback confirming the value of the workshop day. 

Pupil Involvement

Y6 Benenden and Goudhurst Primary pupils are involved - approximately 70 in total.

Frequency

This is the second year Benenden School have supported these performances and it is planned to be an annual event.
