Volunteering with the Elderly

Students at Alleyn's have engaged with many different opportunities to provide support to local elderly residents. Some past initiatives include:

Coronation Afternoon Tea
Alleyn's School hosted an afternoon tea in honour of the King's Coronation with members of LinkAge and residents of the Dulwich Almshouse, whom the school both had existing links with. We had pupils from Year 7 at Alleyn's perform some music and drama pieces for entertainment, and also stay to chat with our guests and help to serve the afternoon tea.

Elm Talk - Interacting with the Elderly
Elm Talk, a befriending activity, where our pupils perform an excellent service: chatting and listening to the elderly residents at The Elms Centre, a residential care home for the elderly in East Dulwich. Elm Talk Field Day takes place at The Elms when our pupils sometimes put on a musical show or dramatic performance.

HelpLine - Computer Skills for the Elderly
Dulwich Helpline ‘Computer Skills for the Elderly' takes place at the Alleyn’s site. Our pupils offer their computer expertise, ranging from word-processing skills to internet use, to the elderly clients of Dulwich Helpline. The current feedback has been extremely positive with many elderly clients being put on a waiting list for one-to-one tuition with our pupils.
