Virtual Saturday Maths Scheme

Each Saturday morning throughout the Lent Term, 41 pupils from local (Southwark based) state primary schools, all identified as gifted mathematicians in their schools, have joined in with the SCEC's Saturday Maths Scheme, which we at Alleyn's have worked hard to transfer completely online. Prior to beginning the sessions, pupils each received a range of maths equipment in the post to help them with the sessions, including whiteboards and pens, different types of paper and a geometry set. Each week, all pupils are invited to specific and personalised group calls learning different topics, with the help of our four external tutors and a group of Year 11 mentors from Alleyn's School.

Aims

The aim of the Saturday Maths sessions are to provide an exciting and education maths tuition in an informal and inspiring environment, going beyond the national curriculum to challenge and stimulate pupil's interest and ability in maths.

Through logic puzzles, innovative games and practical hands-on experiments, pupils are taught in small groups to explore all aspects of maths, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Background
