U9s Netball Festival

Shrewsbury High School hosts an U9 Netball Festival for up to eight local schools. This a fantastic opportunity for pupils to improve their skills and interact with other school pupils in the area. The festival consists of coaching workshops followed by a mini tournament where all schools will compete in mixed teams.

Aims

To encourage children to develop their skills in netball and teams.

To offer some development opportunities for the Primary teachers.

The need for support with Year 3 and 4 came from discussions with our local schools to support the work with Year 5 and 6.

Background

We plan for it to run every year indefinitely.

We invite all our local schools to enter a team (of up to 10 pupils) and places are allocated on a first come basis with schools new to our Outreach Programme taking priority.

Resources

We hold the event on our Netball Courts on Crescent Lane and our PE staff run the sessions.

The Festival runs for 2 hours.

The event is offered free to all participating schools with the costs of the minibuses, refreshments being covered by our Outreach Programme.

Impact

The feedback from the staff and pupils at the schools is always very positive and the event is oversubscribed every year.

Formal feedback on our Outreach Programme is asked for at the end of the Academic Year from every school which has taken part in our Programme using the WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If) framework.

Pupil Involvement

The pupils are in year 3 or 4 and schools can bring up to 10 pupils in their team. We encourage schools to bring boys and girls.

We have space for 7 teams from local state schools (plus our own girls) to take part.

Frequency

The Festival happens once a year in the Autumn Term.

We plan for it to continue indefinitely.
