Theatre workshops

Towards the end of the Autumn term, Tudor Hall hosted a drama workshop led by Paper Birds theatre company. The workshop involved 6th form drama students from both Tudor Hall and the Warriner.

We hosted local schools to our play in a day event. We invited three visiting actors in to deliver a workshop to the children. They help them to create a short play. This is then performed at the end of the day for parents and guardians.

Two year 11 boys from a local state school were given the opportunity to perform in Tudor Halls annual drama performance of 'Oklahoma!'.

Four acting and theatre practitioners came to Tudor to deliver a workshop and guide primary school students of Bishop Loveday and Wroxton C of E to create a play from a collection of stimuli.

Aims

The aim of the Paper Birds Theatre Company event was to expose young people with an interest in theatre to industry level professionals, and for them to experience what it is like to work as part of an established theatre company, in their own style of performance.

The aim of Play in a Day is to give the children a chance to work with a professional actor and develop a basic understanding of drama and performance skills. Many children have not had access to drama, so this was meant to enthuse and inspire the next generation of budding actors.

The aim was to give two boys the opportunity to take part in the school play 'Oklahoma!', with a selection of Tudor Hall girls. The play was performed to a large audience on three nights.

Background

There are links between Warriner School and Tudor Hall School, and this has allowed us to invite the boys to be part of the whole school play.

Resources

Two practitioners from Paper Birds ran the workshop, with staff supervising the event. The event was hosted in the drama studio at Tudor Hall.

Four actors were employed by Tudor to come and work with the children for the Play in a Day event. It used the schools facilities and the school provided the children with lunch.

Impact

The feedback from the Warriner was excellent – the students had an engaging and informative day, with a rare experience to work alongside industry professionals.

Pupil Involvement

Twenty students attended the Paper Birds event, with sixteen of these students attending from the Warriner.

Pupils were in year 5 and were boys and girls.
