The Deanery Schools: Sharing our space, resources and professional expertise
St. Augustine's School has a beautiful Chapel and 13 acres of land and an AstroTurf that it shares with other local schools and community groups. The school is also at the heart of partnerships developing high impact curriculum building and continual professional development opportunities.
Aims
The aim of the project is to share our facilities and teaching with local schools as best suits their needs. Our beautiful chapel and grounds are ideally suited as a venue for a day of prayer and reflection away from the usual school site.
The immediate beneficiaries are the children but the sharing between schools builds cohesion and benefits the wider community.
Background
The project arose from discussions with local schools as to the most appropriate way to make use of the facilities offered and has been established for five years.
Resources
The most critical resource is the time given by the St Augustine's academic staff. Primary pupils and staff are able to access the subject expertise of our Senior School trained staff; Sports Able Gifted & Talented events, Modern Foreign Languages days. The retreats are all examples of the impact of this shared expertise.
The Estates and Catering departments are also involved in the running of the day.
No financial contribution is requested.
Impact
The assessment is meausred through feedback to ensure that the days continue to meet the aims of a focused development for the children of partner schools.
Pupil Involvement
All Year 6 pupils attend the retreat.
Sports Days are attended by a whole primary school, staff and their parents.
Frequency
