Taiko Drumming Workshops and Performance
Two days of Taiko Drumming Workshops were held at Frensham Heights involving local schools which culminated in a collaborative performance in the theatre.
Aims
The main aim of the project was to create performance opportunities for our students and local primary and secondary students. We saw the need and opportunity to utilise our performance space and contacts to create musical performance opportunities for the wider community.
The critical factors for this project to succeed wer the availability of the performance space and continual liaison between all the schools involved and the professional Taiko performer. Frensham Heights also provided transport where necessary.
The immediate beneficiaries were the students in local primary and secondary schools along with Frensham Heights students and staff and the wider community who made up the audience.
Background
The project came about through a continued relationship with the Taiko drumming instructor and Frensham Heights' desire to offer the theatre as a venue to host and financially support this collaboration.
The specific opportunity was identified through conversations and meetings with the Taiko drumming instructor.
This was a two day event
Resources
The critical resources were the Taiko instructor's time and expertise, staff support time, transport and theatre use.
The school facilities were used to host the workshops and performance in the Aldridge Theatre.

There was a financial contribution which funded the Taiko instructor.
