Swimming provision for local primary school pupils
St Swithun's provides free weekly use of the school swimming pool and swimming tuition for pupils from Oliver's Battery Primary School, Sun Hill Junior School, The Westgate school and Four Marks Primary School.
As part of the Swim for the Future programme, we encourage free use of our swimming pool throughout the year, allowing 25 children from each local state schools to develop their swimming skills. The aim of this partnership is to provide the required level of national curriculum swimming for one year group, at zero cost to the state schools involved.
St Swithun's provides free usage of the school swimming pool, lifeguards and swimming tuition for this activity. The swimming coaches assess each pupils level of ability at the start of the programme, and then again at the end to who the progress each child makes.
The aim is to enable all children to swim at least 25 metres.
60 Year 5 pupils from each school benefit from this activity every week, for one term.
