Sutton Symphony Orchestra
Rehearsals take place every on Tuesday evenings during school term-time in our main hall at the School. The Orchestra then performs three major public concerts per year within the London Borough of Sutton.
Aims
Sutton Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is an amateur orchestra which aims to provide the opportunity for players of a reasonable standard to experience rehearsing and performing works from the orchestral repertoire. SSO believes making music should be fun but challenging.
Background
The arrival of a new conductor heralded a new era for the orchestra, with rapid expansion and the boldness to tackle a more adventurous repertoire. This has included Mahler’s First Symphony, Holst’s Suite “The Planets”, and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Phil also teaches at the School as one of our visting music tutors.
Resources
Use of our main hall every week and Phil Aslangul as Conductor.
Impact

The SSO has teamed up with local youth choir Osiris on two occasions in recent history, once in 2014 for Bernstein’s West Side Story Symphonic Suite.
For its 70th Anniversary, the orchestra joined forces with Carshalton Choral Society in a sell-out performance of Verdi Requiem and Respighi Pines of Rome.
