Supporting state secondary pupils with post-16 education choices and interviews
Through existing relationships with state secondary schools, Pocklington School was invited to support several mock interview days for Year 11 pupils who were applying to higher education providers for 16-18 education. Pocklington School was also invited to several post-16 education careers events, with the purpose of promoting Sixth Form fee assistance for Pocklington School.
Background
Pocklington School staff attended Mock Interview Days for Year 11 pupils. A score and comments sheet was completed for each pupil interviewed, providing them with feedback and areas for development.
Academic, Careers and Development staff attended post-16 Careers Fairs to promote a Pocklington School Sixth Form fee assistance scheme, which pays up to 100% of the fees of students who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend. The scheme brings into the school, students from a range of backgrounds, widening access to our school.
Resources
Pocklington School staff time in planning and attending this event was provided free of charge to the state secondary schools.
Impact
The mock interview day gave pupils the opportunity to experience a formal interview, reflect on feedback and be 100% ready for the real thing, so they are able to reach their potential and career goals.
The post-16 Careers Fairs provided a platform to raise awareness of the availability of fee assistance for Pocklington School Sixth Form and encourage pupils from varying backgrounds to apply.
Frequency
Pocklington School has attended several events held by partnership state secondary schools and hopes to continue with this collaboration.
