Support for Ukraine
With the ongoing war in Ukraine, Lingfield College has made numerous efforts to raise money and collect donations for the Ukrainian families who are having to flee their homes.
Aims
The war in Ukraine, and the shocking footage that emerged from that through television and social media prompted a number of events to raise money for those in the war torn country.
Background
This started on the 1st March, with a request to parents and staff for donations to include the following:
Nappies
Baby wipes
Sanitary items
Painkillers
Batteries
Torches
Candles
Shoes for children and adults
Duvets, blankets, sleeping bags
Sturdy supermarket bags
One of our maintenance staff drove a minibus full of these items to the White Eagle Polish Club in Balham where a shipment was later sent to the Ukraine borders.
Following that, our Sixth Formers made blue and yellow ribbon badges and sold them for £1 each raising an astonishing £1000, which was then very kindly matched by a Year 12 Parent.
Two Sixth Form students also sold sweets to students to add to the fundraising.
Fundraising is ongoing.
Impact
This has been a huge topic across all areas of the school linking into the curriculum, politics, current affairs and history, and raising the awareness of those less fortunate than ourselves.
Pupil Involvement
Manu parents of pupils of all ages across both schools have been involved in donating whether items or funds for this cause.
Frequency
There have been a series of events and it is difficult to say how much more we will be doing at this stage.
