STEM Day with 400 pupils from local schools

Each Autumn Wycliffe hosts a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Day, inviting over 400 pupils from local Primary and Prep schools. The pupils hear exciting lectures from a range of external and often high profile speakers, while taking part in hands on STEM experiences.

Aims

The aim of the day is to inspire the next generation of scientists, with exciting lectures and hands on STEM experiences. In addition it provides an excellent opportunity to stretch the Wycliffe College Sixth Form students by involving them in the delivery of science based lessons.

 

Background

Originally STEM day was for our own students to encourage them to think of science outside of the classroom. It evolved into inviting large number of primary school pupils through Wycliffe staff identifying the impact and benefit it could have on those pupils. It has been running for 7 years.

Resources

30 - 40 staff are involved across a wide range of subjects and Wycliffe facilities are provided for the day.

Impact

The success of STEM Day is reviewed each year, with feedback from the schools involved.

Pupil Involvement

Wycliffe Sixth Form students are heavily involved in delivering science based lessons and acting as 'buddies'.

Frequency

One day per annum.
