STEAM event
This event was just for our partnership schools, Dormansland Primary, Lingfield Primary and Felbridge Primary Schools. 120 students had to break a series of codes, solve puzzles, recreate art and forensic investigations to solve ‘Who stole Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’. The mixed group formed of 12 students from Lingfield Primary and 6 each from Felbridge and Dormansland respectively came first much to their delight! Our own children did have experience some of this excitement too on their internal experience day.
Aims
The aim of this event was to give our partnerships school children the opportunity to have a holistic morning of learning using the varied STEAM subjects.
The benefits were felt by the pupils themselves but also our teachers who thoroughly enjoyed putting it together and seeing the satisfaction in the children's faces when they cracked the code.
Background
Rather than running many little events, it was thought to be a good idea to run one big event covering as much as possible, and as meaningful as possible. It was a year in the planning, meeting with the individual teachers, discussing the plans with the Heads of the primary schools and the logistics of getting the pupils to Lingfield College. It was worth every second!
The delight on the Mixed Group (pupils from each of the three schools) when they one was fabulous!
Resources
The event took place at the School, used 10 staff members, a mix of teaching and support staff. It was from 0930 to 1230.
There were 120 children aged 10 and 11.
Frequency
