State school governor

A member of the Foundation Leadership team at King's School Worcester sits on the Local Area Governing Body (LAGB) for both Abbeywood First and Church Hill Middle School in Redditch, and has done since March 2021. They participate in regular meetings, and have responsibility for overseeing transition between the two schools, oversight of safeguarding procedures and practice with monitoring visits. Both schools are part of the Central Region Schools Trust.

Aims

The aim of the partnership is to volunteer time and offer support to the state school leadership team. The partnership came to fruition following a notification of a governor vacancy.

Crucial to the success of a governor within any school environment is a supportive, "critical friend" approach to school leaders, with optimum outcomes for pupils, in this case at the two local state schools.

The immediate beneficiaries of the partnership are the state schools being supported, it's staff and pupils.

Background

The case study came to fruition following an advertised vacancy which was identified by a member of the Foundation Leadership team at King's Worcester.

The member of the Foundation Leadership team has been a governor for a total of three years to date.

Resources

The resources that are critical to the success of this case study are entirely time based, relating to one member of the Foundation Leadership team. The total time devoted per academic year is around 30 hours.

Pupil Involvement

No pupils from within the King's Foundation are involved in this partnership.

Frequency

This partnership is ongoing until the end of the current academic year. It involves termly meetings with more regular papers.
