Squash training for our and local pupils

Ultimately, we would like to improve participation rates of squash locally by widening our range of players to include pupils especially, both our own but also from local state schools.

Shrewsbury Squash Club uses our courts when the school does not use them, so a collaborative project with them to engage new players and get more pupils engaged with the sport is beneficial to all as squash tends to be mostly played by adults.

Aims

We are aiming to give more time in the Squash Club to both our own and local state school pupils to come and enjoy squash and make use of our courts. To allow pupils to train, play and socialise via their interest and enjoyment of squash.

Background

Our teacher i/c Squash has been liaising with our external coach to identify ways to increase pupils numbers and attract more players in that age bracket.

Resources

Ben Schur will be providing squash coaching to pupils from 4-6pm on Wednesdays in the Michaelmas Term here at our school courts.

The School and the Squash Club will fund this project on a 50/50 basis.

Impact

We hope to see pupil numbers increase over the term and therefore possibly extend the project into the Lent Term.

Pupil Involvement

We have started with 6 pupils from Shrewsbury and 4 are attending from the local area.

Frequency

The coaching will run Wednesdays 4-6pm during Michaelmas term so start with.
