Squash and Academic support
The programme is designed to help children learn a new skill through fun, fitness-focused, technique development activities as well as to provide additional academic support
Aims
The aims of the programme are two fold. For the primary school children it is to enable children to gain in fitness and learn how to play squash as well as have some additional academic support as needed.
For the Lower Sixth pupils running the programme, it is an opportunity for them to design, collaborate and lead sessions for younger pupils.
Background
The programme is part of our wider Lower Sixth community outreach programme, Primary Ambitions. Primary Ambitions provides enrichment opportunities at Emanuel School and off-site, as in this example.
Resources
The programme is run at a local sports club with access to a study room and squash courts.
A squash coach is on hand to support our students. Academic staff from our partner primary school are also on hand.
Impact
We assess impact after each 5-week session.
Pupil Involvement
The programme involves Year 6 pupils from St Mary's and Lower Sixth pupils from Emanuel School.
Frequency
The programme is weekly and runs for 20 weeks across the academic year.
