Springs Nebular Programme

Nebula is a gifted and talented program for students who attend Sheffield Springs Academy, led by the school itself. Sheffield Girls' have partnered with Sheffield Springs Academy to deliver curriculum enrichment sessions for students from both schools to attend alongside one another.

Aims

The Nebula STEM stream curriculum at Sheffield Springs Academy aims to push students gifted in these subjects to not only meet their potential, but to exceed it. The school's intent is that Nebula students will leave Sheffield Springs
Academy at the end of Y11 with the highest grades in these subjects, have developed skills in high
demand and have received support to experience industries and workplaces connected to STEM.

To achieve these aims, the Nebula team have partnered with Sheffield Girls' to offer students access to subject specialists who have extensive expertise in their field and a passion to push students as far as possible.

Nebula students follow an adapted curriculum with an increased STEM content and commit to attending regular extra-curricular clubs and activities.

The students involved attend an afterschool enrichment 4 days per week alongside longer enrichment opportunities through the school day.  Sheffield Girls' students have enjoyed sharing enrichment days on Maths, Classics, Geology and Debating.

Background

The partnership was initiated as a result of an existing relationship with Arbourthorne Community Primary School which is a feeder school for Springs Academy. Sheffield Girls' has supported Springs Academy's Nebula programme since is began in 2021.

Resources

Sheffield Girls' offers the use of it's facilities to host enrichment days for students from both schools, with the costs of engaging external providers shared between the schools.

Impact

The impact of the Nebula programme on students is monitored by Springs Academy.

Pupil Involvement

Students from Springs Academy taking part apply to do so and are interviewed to enter the project from Y7 and there are now 3 cohorts involved with the project (one in Y7, one in Y8 and one in Y9). The size of each cohort ranges from 24 to 29.

Frequency

Sheffield Girls' students work alongside Nebular students on at least two sessions per year.
