Sixth Form Careers Evening
Monkton hosted a careers evening for our Sixth Form pupils, also inviting pupils from Ralph Allen School. Monkton alumni and parents from a variety of career paths, from pharmacology to social work, engineering to human resources, attended the evening to talk to pupils about opportunities and career paths. Alongside a careers fair, there were 3 keynote talks.
Aims
The aim was to open up this event to local sixth form pupils so that they could benefit from the wealth of expertise and careers advice we had curated, alongside our pupils.
Background
This event came as part of growing partnership between Monkton and Ralph Allen.
Our members of staff identified that we had the capacity to be able to extend the event, and that it would be beneficial for pupils beyond Monkton, so approached Ralph Allen to invite them along.
Resources
Monkton staff (who oversee our Futures programme) organised the event which happened in our school hall. 20 Monkton alumni and parents took part in the event and offer careers support to pupils. The evening ran from 5:30 - 8pm.
Impact
Monkton and Ralph Allen pupils benefitted from the opportunity to speak to adults in a range of careers, gaining advice on the world of work, starting their careers, and CV writing and applications. This will directly benefit them as they think about their options post-school.
Pupil Involvement
All of Monkton's Year 12 pupils attended. 20 Ralph Allen pupils were invited, of which 3 attended with 1 member of staff.
Frequency
This was a one off event but we hope we will be able to run similar events in the future.
