Science Showcase
The Science Show Club is one of the extra-curricular clubs on offer at WGS and students are trained to deliver interactive shows which ignite students' interest in all things Science.
The Club has been running for 3 years but live shows were curtailed for a time by Covid. The first post-pandemic show as delivered in May 2022 by 12 Sixth Formers at Castlefields Primary School in Bridgnorth.
This year the club is popular enough to run two separate groups so WGS is looking forward to reaching out to more local schools as well as hosting a Science event at School towards the end of the academic year.
Aims
The partnership was born out of a wish to promote Science in the community for the benefit of local primary school children who may not have been exposed to Scientific study, either through lack of resources or teaching specialism in their schools. It also provides further extra-curricular opportunities for WGS Sixth formers.
Background
The partnership was established by the Head of Science who used to be a Science entertainer and started up the extra-curricular club 3 years ago at WGS.
Resources
The project involves teaching staff supported by tje estates staff who arrange transport to the partner schools where required.
It uses the School's Science laboratories for practice and the School Hall for shows. School minibuses are available for partner schools.
Pupil Involvement
Currently 22 WGS students aged 16 and 17 years are involved in delivering the shows to local schools. It is a recurring club which is offered to Sixth Form students each term.
Frequency
The Club runs weekly at lunchtime and shows are delivered in local schools on request. The show in May 2022 was the first we have been able to deliver off-site since Covid.
Students were also involved in delivering a show to Year 5 pupils from several local schools visiting WGS for a Discovery Day on 14th May 2022
It is likely to run 2-3 times each academic year for the foreseeable future.
