Science Show
Sixth Formers have been trained to deliver a professional standard Science Show to local pupils in order to encourage a love for Science and STEM.
Aims
To encourage scientific enquiry and a love of Science and STEM amongst school age children.
Background
The School runs a Science Show extra-curricular club in which Sixth Formers are trained to deliver a professional standard Science Show to pupils.
The opportunity was identified by one of our Physics teachers who used to deliver Science Shows professionally and who wanted to pass on his knowledge and love for the subject.
He established a club for Sixth Formers and has been running this for the last four years at lunchtime.
Resources
The shows can be delivered in school or outside. The School is able to deliver shows in partner schools upon request.
Pupil Involvement
Currently 40 WGS students take part in the project. They are aged 16-17 years.
Frequency
Shows are delivered annually at WGS to visiting pupils who attend our Year 5 Discovery Day. In May 2023 there were 69 children attending from other schools who benefitted from the project.
Later the same month a Science Show was delivered to 150 pupils in Reception to Year 4 at Perton Middle School.
The club runs each year and trains up new Lower Sixth students to deliver shows.
