School Physics Partnership

Since Summer 2018 Headington School has been the Oxford hub school for a Charity Trust, aiming to support Physics teaching at primary and secondary level and to support students to develop Physics identity. 

Annual events hosted at Headington, using Headington facilities and being delivered with the support of Headington teachers and technicians, will include a KS3 challenge day for 160 maintained school pupils and a STEM enrichment day for 500 maintained school pupils from Years 6-13. Additionally, Headington will host a day of annual Primary Physics teacher training in October, using Headington facilities.

Aims

The Ogden Trust partnership aims to support Physics teaching at primary and secondary level and to support students to develop Physics identity. 

Background

The hub leader is a Headington Physics teacher, and 2019 is the first year in which Headington has supported the partnership.

Resources

The Headington Physics teacher is given timetable remission of 6 hours per fortnight to plan and prepare events linked to the Ogden Trust partnership.  

Events hosted at Headington School will use our Science teaching facilities, and will be supported by Headington teachers and technicians.  

Impact

After the inaugural event in Summer 2019 an assessment of the partnership's success will be made based on the number of pupils who were able to attend and the number of maintained schools that took part.  

Questionnaires will also be used to assess the impact of the event on attendees.  

Pupil Involvement

Around 25 Headington pupils from a range of year groups will be involved in the KS3 event in Summer 2019, which will be attended by around 160 male and female pupils from maintained schools.  The STEM enrichment day planned for 2020 will host 500 pupils from maintained schools.

Frequency

Headington plans to host two annual events involving visiting pupils, and one annual day of teacher training.
