School of Rock Drama Day

Pupils from St Martin's Garden and Swainswick Primary School visited Monkton for a day of workshops and to watch the performance of School of Rock

Aims

To bring schools together to enjoy opportunities for learning. To share the experience of our school play with partner schools in the area.

Background

This is an annual opportunity that we are excited to be able to offer again now that we are emerging from the pandemic.

Resources

We booked a coach, and minibus transport to enable both schools to attend. The financial contribution of this was just over £200 for transport, and a further catering contribution of providing a hot lunch for all visitors.

We used our staff members and students to help run workshops, drive minibuses and the school hall for the performance.

Impact

63 pupils attended.

One headteacher fed back the following:

"I just wanted to thank you for hosting our children last week and making the arrangements to ensure they could attend. We had some very happy children return to us on Thursday evening full of joy and excitement. As I greeted them from the coach they were so excited to tell us all about their day.  They really enjoyed the workshops they attended and were very proud of their t-shirts.  Thank you for also providing lunch as well.

For many of our pupils that is the first theatre performance they have ever attended. They absolutely loved the performance and were highly impressed as were all the staff."

Pupil Involvement

70 Monkton pupils were involved, alongside 63 visiting pupils.

Frequency

This is an annual event.
