Scholars Programme
Our Scholars Programme was launched in November 2018 to replace the Summer School. We used it to recruit 15 girls for the first programme with a view to increasing numbers in subsequent years.
Aims
The aim is to work for a whole calendar year with able girls from local state schools who would be eligible for bursaries, to provide both an academic enrichment programme and preparation for entrance to selective schools (state or private).
Background
This programme was established by the former Head of Lower School, and is coming to the end of its first cycle.
Resources
Five Saturday masterclasses involving an English and Maths class, followed by a longer session where a variety of different topics and subjects are explored in more depth (e.g. critical thinking, DT).
Four after school sessions involving an English and Maths lesson and some interview preparation.
All the sessions were run by teaching staff from CLSG, with the help of support staff where appropriate.
Impact
This is the first year of the programme in this format, so there is not currently any assessment data to indicate benefits.
Feedback will be gathered from the pupils and parents at the end of the cycle.
Pupil Involvement
The programme is designed to support girls in Year 5 and the first term of Year 6.
Frequency
This is an ongoing programme, involving a different group of pupils each calendar year.
