Reading Family Aid - toys and teens appeal

Towards the run up to Christmas, RBCS will be partnering with Reading Family Aid as part of the Toys and Teens appeal. Pupils will be asked to donate toys and gifts for disadvantaged children living in the Reading area who otherwise would be unlikely to receive any Christmas presents.

Aims

The aim of this partnership is to help RFA with their annual Christmas appeal for toys and gifts for children and teens living in poverty. The critical factor to success relates to communication of the appeal to the school community. This was the main role of the Aldworth Partnership prefects. The immediate beneficiaries will be children in the local area.

Background

The partnership arose from an email sent to the school from a parent. This initiative was set up for the first time in 2024.

Resources

Staff (tutors) are responsible for continuing the communication of the appeal and collecting gifts/toys.

Impact

The anticipated outcome will be to boost the number of gifts and presents.

Reading Family Aid have asked if we could also consider gift items for the older children - last year about 1250 children were in the 10-16 age bracket. They feel the disappointment of getting little or nothing for Christmas as much as the younger ones.

Pupil Involvement

The project will be led by the Aldworth Prefects and other interested Sixth Form students. All pupils in the school can be involved along with parents and staff.

Frequency

This event takes place annually. We will look at developing this partnership to other appeals run by RFA throughout the year.
