Rackets Cubed Partnership
The charity Rackets Cubed works nationally to enhance "the long term achievement of inner City kids through integrated Sports, Education and Nutrition programmes". It organises weekly extra-curricular racket sports activities, as well as maths support, and the session is rounded off with a healthy meal.
We are excited to become a host site, which means pupils come to us to use our facilities. We are currently paired with the Alton Primary School, and are welcoming their year 3 class each Thursday afternoon. Our catering department provides the tea. Students also benefit from maths tuition, assisted by pupil volunteers who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Aims
The aims of the charity are to support sports and maths provision to pupils at primary schools with certain deprivation markers. The sports sessions are designed to improve hand-eye coordination as well as fitness, and are targets at groups with a historically low take-up of sports. Whilst the charity has been working for a few years, post-pandemic, the need to support these pupils is far greater.
In becoming a host school, we are allowing a much deeper partnership to form between us and local primary schools, and in providing the space, food, and pupil volunteers, we are helping these important sessions to be even more successful.
Background
We already had a link with Rackets Cubed due to their work providing food for struggling families in Roehampton.
Resources
We use Roberts Hall and one of the prep school Classrooms for the learning, as well as the refectory (dining hall). The Ibstock catering team makes the food.
