Primary Schools Science Challenge 2024
Our annual schools ‘Science and Engineering Challenge’ competition was held on Saturday 16th March, as part of our celebration of British Science Week.
A team of four pupils from Year 5 / Year 6 competed against other schools from the area in the challenge, testing their teamwork, logic and creativity.
Bloodhound STEM Engineering Challenge
This year, we were excited to welcome Bloodhound Education, the team behind the Bloodhound LSR Project, to run the challenge. The Bloodhound LSR Project is an iconic programme which not only aims to break the World Land Speed Record reaching speeds beyond 800mph, but also to showcase world class science and engineering.
Workshop Overview
The morning began with a 20-minute interactive presentation about the history of land speed record cars and potential STEM career pathways.
Fourteen teams entered the competition and the challenge was to work as engineers in teams of 4 to design and build a prototype car out of K-Nex, which they then tested, making design modifications to improve performance during the process. At the end of the morning, there was a final race along the track to see which car design travelled furthest in a straight line.
