Primary Schools Cricket tournament

We welcomed primary and prep schools from East Sussex and Kent to a day of Cricket here at Mayfield. There were workshops run by our current Senior Cricketers and School Leaders.

The staff and girls umpired a tournament for the schools to all participate in.

Aims

The aim is to provide wider opportunities for primary school age children to have access to cricket workshops and tournament experience.

Mixed cricket is a great opportunity for all to access the sport but specialist teaching is not readily available for pre and primary school children. This provides both the opportunity for the pupils to learn new skills and understand how competitive cricket (pairs rules) works. In addition visiting staff rom schools have the chance to learn new drills and training opportunities to take back to their schools.

Background

This is part of a wider group of sporting events run by the school to encourage and increase participation in primary and smaller pre schools.

Identified when working with primary schools staff of gaps in their resources of specific specialist teaching and tournament opportunities for certain sports.
