Primary School swimming lessons

The swimming pool at Reading Blue Coat School is made available for use by primary school partners throughout the year.

Aims

The aim of this partnership is to give KS2 pupils in a number of our local primary schools the chance to learn an important life skill.

Swimming lessons are costly for parents and these weekly sessions are free of charge.

Consistency in learning a sport or technique such as swimming is key. The regularity of this visit is crucial to the impact it can make on the lives of the pupils.

Background

This is a long established partnership from 2015. The opportunity was identified by the Director of the Aldworth Partnership who contacted local primary schools to determine whether they wished to access the facilities.

Resources

A safe pool and changing facility are crucial to the success of this partnership. We also offer the use of our minibus for primary schools who are unable to transport their pupils to RBCS.

Impact

The anticipated outcome will be to ensure a large number of primary age pupils from the local community have the opportunity to learn how to swim. Over the last year 86 pupils have used this resource.

Pupil Involvement

This opportunity is available to girls and boys. Pupils are usually in Year 3 or Year 4.

Frequency

This activity takes place every week throughout the year during term time for Highwood Primary. Crazies Hill Primary use the facility during the spring term. Robert Piggott Primary use the pool during the summer term.
