Primary School Days

In the summer term, pupils from local primary schools are invited to undertake lessons in Design Technology, Science and Forest School at RBCS. These lessons are organised and delivered by RBCS staff.

Aims

To stimulate pupils' interest in the STEM subjects covered.  

Background

The project was set up by the Head of Integrated Science and the Head of Design Technology following communication with local primary schools. The arrangement has run in various forms since 2018.

Resources

Pupils utilise the workshops and laboratories at RBCS with all activities being fully risk assessed. Activities have been designed to be fun and appeal to the age range. Teaching and non-teaching staff are involved in the preparation and delivery of the lessons. Each school is offered a half or full day (with lunch provided). The activity is offered free of charge

Impact

The activity is offered annually. The anticipated outcome is broaden the curriculum in relation to STEM with practical activities that appeal to both girls and boys.

Pupil Involvement

Pupils from primary schools range from Year 4 to Year 6.

Frequency

This activity takes place every year during the summer term.
