Primary school choir

Sixth Form pupils from RBCS are working with pupils in Year 4, 5 and 6 to form a choir for their school.

Aims

The aim of the partnership is to form a choir at Thameside Primary School.

The critical factor for success with a performing arts partnership is regular practice to develop confidence and thoroughly learn the material.

The immediate beneficiaries will be the pupils from both schools. The school community will benefit from some excellent performances and it is hoped that the wider community around Caversham will also be able to hear the choir.

Background

This need was identified by the Deputy Head in July 2024. The teacher running the choir was leaving and a replacement could not be found. The Director of the Aldworth Partnership visited the school to discuss the opportunity. The choir began in September 2024 when the Year 12 returned to school.

Resources

The pupils from RBCS along with one member of staff are transported to Thameside Primary every Thursday. It was easier to do this than transport Thameside pupils to RBCS due to the timing of the event.

It would be great for the choir to sing at RBCS at some point in the future.

No financial contribution is expected from Thameside Primary School.

Impact

The choir would not have been able to run without the input from the Sixth Form pupils at RBCS. They will be able to perform at events in their school and also the wider community.

Pupil Involvement

The choir is run by five Sixth Form students with the help of one member of staff. Pupils from Year 4. 5 and 6 form the choir. Both boys and girls participate in this activity.

Frequency

The event takes place every week where possible. It is planned to keep the activity running until a person from Thameside takes over. However, it is hoped that the partnership will continue for many years.
