Primary Festival of Sport

We warmly welcomed the enthusiastic boys and girls from local Schools for a fun filled morning on our 4G All-Weather Pitch. Our Sports Department put together an exciting carousel of activities that had the children beaming with joy. It is wonderful to see the children having the opportunity to use the Shrewsbury House Prep School sports facilities and playing a range of different sports, sharing important skills to develop their game understanding.

Aims

The aims of the partnership are to share our sporting knowledge, expertise and facilities with other schools that may not necessarily have the same level of resources available for their sports programmes.

Background

The partnership came about through our Executive Head who is a firm believer in having specialist sports coaches run the sports programme, and our Director of Sport, who put the programme together with the partner schools.

Resources

The principal resources for the programme were our 4G All Weather Pitch and sports equipment for Football, Cricket and Rugby. Six members of the Shrewsbury House School sports department coaching team led the sessions working with teachers from the partner schools.

Impact

The benefits of the sessions were for teachers from all the schools to share ideas and coaching methods/philosophy. An opportunity for the children involved to have some intensive sport specific coaching and the use of the most modern facilities available.

The staff from Long Ditton wrote ‘The staff and children had a brilliant time and several children have already asked me when they can come again! Please let us know if you have any other events on for year one or year two in the future as everyone would love to attend!’.

Pupil Involvement

The children involved in the Primary Festival of Sport were Year 2 and Year 6 boys and girls.

Frequency

The collaboration between the schools is ongoing, with the Festival of Sport this year being expanded into a more frequent programme next academic year.
