Primary Engineers

Pupils are given a situation or problem to solve and they then create their own solutions to the task before an outside engineer comes in to speak with them and analyse their designs, offering feedback and development suggestions before their designs are submitted to a competition.

Aims

To involve and encourage primary pupils to engage in engineering and design tasks with professional feedback and analysis.

Background

An email from a Monkton staff child's primary school to parents asking for someone to come in. The Head of DT at Monkton responded to this and agreed to lead it.

Impact

Teacher observation and pupil development of ideas during session.

Pupils engaged really well and all groups and individuals were able to develop their ideas in one or more ways.

28 primary age pupils were engaged in this project

Frequency

It was a one-day activity (held on 24/1/20) but it is hoped that it will be repeated.
