Penpal scheme with care home residents

Year 8 and Year 9 pupils have been corresponding with their pen pals. The pupils have been updating residents on their achievements over the Autumn Term share their respective experiences of the pandemic.  Some of the residents were able to attend the school production of Romeo and Juliet and cheer-on their pen pal in-action, on-the-stage!  Plans are afoot to explore the possibility of filming an first in-person encounter between a pen pal pairing later this term, as part of the ‘Our School’ production venture with CBBC.

To celebrate National Poetry Day, some of our Year 7, 8 and 9 were invited to St Monica’s to read Poems they had written around the topic ‘Choice’.  Some of the residents had also written poems of their own about this topic.  The group enjoyed a discussion about their inspirations for the poems and our pupils benefited from receiving some insightful advice from the residents.
