Oxbridge Application Programme

We have invited local state schools to join our Oxbridge Preparation programme.

Session include:

- Introductory Zoom;

- Workshop on Oxbridge Interviews and preparation;

- Interview practice and mock subject interviews.

More than 50 external students have participated in these sessions in the current year.

Aims

The main aim of the programme was to provide the students with an understanding of how to prepare for Oxbridge entrance. This included an outline of the application process, information on what to expect at the interview stage and guidance on how to prepare and then experience of tough interviews with subject specialists that they had not yet met.

Success can be measured anecdotally via student comments on their confidence and via conversion rates from interview to offers.

Background

We originally devloped a programme linking with Sandringham School. We have since extended the invitation to local state schools who are involved with our partnership programme.

Resources

Initial sessions were delivered by our SHHS staff.

We employed an Oxbridge expert to give the workshop which was paid for through our philanthropic funds.

We recruited Interviewers from our staff and alumnae comminity with a focus on former students who had studied the courses and matched them with candidates applying for the same course.

We hosted the events at SHHS. With around 80 SHHS and Partnership School candidates attending.

All costs were met by SHHS.

Pupil Involvement

50 external students took up the offer to join the workship. All are rising 18 and have applied to Oxbridge for university.

Frequency

The programme runs on an annual basis and will recommence in the summer before applications are made. We hope to continue to work with schools who have little or no provision for Oxbridge entrance.
