Overseas Partnerships
Caterham School continues to foster and expand its partnership and support of schools and charities overseas. In July 2019, the School ran its thirteenth consecutive annual trip to Lerang’wa Primary School in Tanzania. A group of 20 students and five members of staff completed the two-week trip, providing tuition and other practical support to the school.
Also in July 2019 a group of pupils went to Talsenante, in the Ait Bougumez Valley, Morocco. They carried out project work at the community education centre and taught lessons in the community.
Funds raised at Caterham School have all gone to help the children of Lerang’ wa. Improvements have been made to the school infrastructure; toilets, washing, cooking – along with Lerang’ wa Lunches: daily meals for each pupil funded by money raised at Caterham School, to replace the WFP aid that stopped in 2011. These measures have improved health and attendance at the school, and so impacted directly on educational outcomes at Lerang’ wa.
The School has run similar trips to India (to support Kumbaradi School) and to support the Betania Foundation, which is a charity that supports and educates the Roma, and to Nicaragua, where students and staff will supported Casa Xalteva in Granada which is a language school that runs an outreach programme for street children in the local area.
