Olympic Gold Medallist unveils fantastic new Astro
Giselle Ansley MBE, Hockey Olympic Gold and Bronze medallist, visited King Edward's to launch our newly resurfaced Astro. As part of the celebration, Giselle led a masterclass for pupils on the new surface from both King Edward’s and Barrow Hills Schools providing coaching advice during one of our several hockey fixtures.
Aims
To launch and promote the newly refurbished Astro turf. =For Giselle to lead a masterclass for pupils from both King Edward’s and Barrow Hills Schools and provide coaching advice during the several hockey fixtures.
Background
The Head of Hockey, invited Giselle to the School to meet the pupils and give a focused masterclass. The Astro turf was refurbished over the winter and has been used extensively since its launch.
Impact
The Astro turf is used every day for hockey matches, inviting other schools to King Edward's or Year group and House matches.
Hockey is played by both girls and boys and the increase in successful matches has increased substantially.
The exterior is currently being renovated and will house seating and viewing platforms for visitors .
Pupil Involvement
The Visiting Barrow Hills pupils were from Years 6 and 7 and the King Edward's pupils were in Years 7 to 9.
