New Dance School
Following on from the success of our newly created stage school, we wanted to extend our local provision by creating a dance school. This is for children in the local community, From a standing start, we now have over 30 children from the local community attending ballet or modern dance lessons in our purpose-build studio.
Aims
To create an opportunity for local children of all ages to access excellent modern and ballet classes
Background
Following on from the success our stage school, we wanted to extend our provision to include dance.
The first step was recruiting an excellent dance teacher to allow us to run both Modern and Ballet tuition. We were able to set up dance classes that ran after school and were open to both our own students and children from the wider community.
We developed our old nursery into a top-class Dance Studio with sprung floor, mirrors and barres and the popularity of classes grew. Our ballet tots class aimed at pre-school children filled within days.
Resources
We made some investment into creating a dance studio from an old nursery school space, installing sprung floors, wall to wall mirrors and sound. We employed a professional dance teacher and invested in some admin support.
Impact
Over 30 children from the local community take part in our weekly modern and ballet classes. They work towards examinations and take part in an annual dance show.
Pupil Involvement
Children form the local community form 2-16 can join our lessons. We have a range of classes for all abilities. Currently over 30 children are registered with us and we have a waiting list.
Frequency
Classes run each week across a range of ages and abilities for both modern dance and ballet.
