Music Workshops
Students and staff from St Helen's held musical workshops for students from community special school, the Iffley Academy.
Aims
The Iffley Academy, a school for students with special educational and physical needs, did not have any music teachers at this time. This project was organised as part of St Helen’s wider involvement with Iffley Academy, to give students the opportunity to learn and be involved in music they would not otherwise have been able to.
Background
St Helen's partnership with the Iffley Academy has been going for two years.
Impact
The project culminated in a closed performance at the new Iffley Academy Music Room.
One of the St Helen’s students who took part said: “It was so lovely to see the children come out of their shells during this time and it was evident that with the help of music, and with a little bit of encouragement, that they began to feel more confident and fully immersed themselves in the project.”
Pupil Involvement
12 students from the Iffley Academy were involved, with 8 St Helen's students.
