Monkton - Ralph Allen Basketball

Partnership between Monkton and local state school, Ralph Allen to provide competitive basketball fixtures for our pupils.

Aims

To provide both Monkton and Ralph Allen pupils with an opportunity to play competitive basketball, as there is a lack of other opportunities in this area. This is a mutual partnership, with games played at both schools. The beneficiaries are Monkton and Ralph Allen pupils.

Background

The need was identified and a mutual partnership was established between teachers at the two schools. The first fixtures were in 2023, with continuing games in 2024. 

Resources

Monkton and Ralph Allen sports halls are used. Both schools have teaching and sports staff involved in facilitating the games.

Impact

There is a benefit to pupils in taking part in friendly competitive fixtures, interacting with pupils from other schools. They are also able to learn and practise skills in basketball that they may not otherwise have the chance to do. 

Pupil Involvement

Teams of approximately 9 U18 pupils from each school take part in each game. 

Frequency

This is an ongoing partnership. Two games were played in 2023, and currently 1 has been played in 2024 with another planned at the end of February.
