Monkton Leadership Programme Visits Combe Down Primary School

As part of their leadership programme, 38 pupils from year 12 engaged in a service project at Combe Down Primary School on 15th November.

Monkton pupils and staff worked with the Combe Down Primary School team to design and develop a memorial garden in honour of a staff member who recently passed away.

Aims

To continue to work together as partner schools, providing each other with opportunities for service, mutual support and encouragement.

The need for help in building the garden was identified by Combe Down Primary School, and the need for a practical service opportunity for Monkton pupils was identified. The two combined in this project.

Background

This experience came about as part of an ongoing and growing partnership relationship between our two schools.

Resources

Resources that were needed to support this project included staff planning time, the purchase of materials and plants as well as a small water feature, staff supervision time, minibuses for transport, 38 pupils were taken off timetable, and a small financial contribution was made towards equipment.

Impact

Feedback from the school included:

"The work that took place on Tuesday this week is amazing- thank you so much. The bird bath is beautiful."

Pupil Involvement

38 Monkton year 12 pupils were involved.

Frequency

This was a one-off event that is part of a wider programme of engagement, and a longer term partnership to design, plan and establish the memorial garden space together.
