Meole Brace Primary Art Mural Project
We helped Meole Primary to create a new wall mural for their assembly hall, with pupils from the whole school.
Aims
To create a mural for the main assembly hall at Meole Primary School involving themes of nature and surroundings with a tactile textural quality. Pupils from each year group created the mural, helped by our Lower Sixth pupils and some staff input.
Background
Our Head of Art worked with the new Deputy Head of Meole Primary to identify the need, theme and logistics.
Resources
Our Art department visited Meole on Thursday afternoons in Lent Term of 2019 along with a local textiles artist and our Thursday afternoon Arts Activity group from the Lower Sixth.
Impact
The outcome is a wonderful oak-framed mural which is widely acclaimed and successful. Students and staff feel the mural has uplifted their environment and brought together the students. This has been an excellent team-work exercise for Meole and Shrewsbury students.
Pupil Involvement
12 of our Lower Sixth pupils used their Thursday afternoon Activity session to help create the mural during Lent Term 2019. They worked, along with teachers from Meole and Shrewsbury, with approx 10 students from each year group at Meole.
Frequency
This was a one-off event; however the partnership continues with the Big Draw on 17th October 2019 and no doubt others events to come...
