Mentoring with Spring Forward & Royal National Children's SpringBoard Foundation
SpringForward is an organisation partnering with schools to provide mentoring sessions for young people who have focused on gaining knowledge on higher education and the benefits to personal development and cultural enrichment, as well as transition support and building confidence in their potential to progress onto and succeed in higher education.
This year Monkton offered 4 volunteer mentors from our staff body to take part in this programme. Monkton is also part of a wider partnership arrangement with the Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation, through which we receive young people who have experienced care as boarders, following a careful matching process.
Aims
Supporting pupils from a wide range of backgrounds so that they can flourish and progress on towards succeeding in higher education.
Background
We have been working with Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation for some years now, and have found this to be a very positive partnership. Our connection with the SpringForward scheme is new this year, and though we provided four mentors, they have not yet been matched. We will look to continue and develop our support for this scheme.
Resources
This partnership relies on the expertise of Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation, as well as the support of Monkton donors. The mentoring scheme relies on the volunteering of our teaching staff members. Currently there are four of them, but this number will be reviewed annually.
Impact
At least one fully funded SpringBoard pupil in each year group at Senior School.
Frequency
This is an ongoing partnership.
